How IPL Teams Make their squads

A team can acquire players through any of the three ways:

1)  Annual Player Auction

2) Trading Players with other Teams During the Trading Windows

3) Signing Replacements For Unavailable Players

Process of IPl Auction

Players sign up for the auction and also set their base price, and are bought by the franchise that bids the highest for them. Unsold players at the auction are eligible to be signed up as replacement signings. In the trading windows, a player can only be traded with his consent, with the franchise paying the difference if any between the old and new contracts. If the new contract is worth more than the older one, the difference is shared between the player and the franchise selling the player.

There are generally three trading windows—

1) Two Before the Auction

2) One After the Auction but before the start of the tournament.

Players cannot be traded outside the trading windows or during the tournament, whereas replacements can be signed before or during the tournament.

Some Rules For The IPl Teams

1) The squad strength must be between 18 and 25 players, with a maximum of 8 overseas players.

2) The salary cap of the entire squad must not exceed ₹850 million (US$12 million).

3) Under-19 players cannot be picked unless they have previously played first-class or List A cricket.

4) A team can play a maximum of 4 overseas players in their playing eleven.

IPL Match Rules

IPL games utilize television timeouts and hence there is no time limit in which teams must complete their innings. However, a penalty may be imposed if the umpires find teams misusing this privilege. Each team is given a two-and-a-half-minute “strategic timeout” during each innings; one must be taken by the bowling team between the ends of the 6th and 9th overs, and one by the batting team between the ends of the 13th and 16th overs.

Since the 2018 season, the Umpire Decision Review System is being used in all IPL matches, allowing each team one chance to review an on-field umpire’s decision per innings.

Prize money

The 2019 season of the IPL offered total prize money of ₹500 million (US$7.0 million), with the winning team netting ₹200 million (US$2.8 million). The first and second runners up received ₹125 million (US$1.8 million) and ₹87.5 million (US$1.2 million), respectively, with the fourth-placed team also winning ₹87.5 million (US$1.2 million). The other teams are not awarded any prize money. The IPL rules mandate that half of the prize money must be distributed among the players.

How IPl Teams and BCCI Makes Money

Now you think why all teams purchase teams if they have got no money but you are wrong all teams make money and also BCCI.

By Following methods BCCI and Teams Franchise makes money:

1) Media Rights

In 2008 SET MAX gives Rs.8000 crores to the BCCI for live broadcasting for 10 years (2008 to 2017). And Now From 2018 to 2022, Star Sports get the rights for live broadcasting of IPL and They give Rs.16000 Crores to the BCCI for 5 Years i.e. Rs.3200 crores Per year.

2) Title Sponsor

When IPL comes we say DLF IPL Then later we say Pepsi IPL and Now we say VIVO IPL AND This DLF, Pepsi, and VIVO are The Title sponsors of IPL. Now From 2018 to 2022, VIVO is the Title sponsor of IPL and for this VIVO gives Rs.2200 Crores to the BCCI i.e. Rs.440 crore Per year. And Also IPL has many sponsors like JIO, TATA and many more.

And BY These sponsors and media rights BCCI gets Rs.20000 crores for 5 years i.e. Rs.4000 crore per year.

And BCCI gives 40% of 4000 crores i.e. 1600 crores to all teams i.e. Rs. 200 crore per team.

And teams also make money by their sponsors. For example, you see the T-shirt of every IPL player you see a lot of sponsors and the team charges them for showing their brands on the T-shirt of Their teams. And with this team make money by ticket selling and food sponsors and by selling t-shirts and many more merchant things.

And they make more money by winning IPL final and they give 40% of the money of IPL prize to their players.

And teams give their 20% of total revenue to the BCCI every year and they use their 80% revenue for managing teams and for other charges.
