Mumbai Ambushes Chennai!
The match between Mumbai and Chennai was a thriller but not due to Sachin rather Sanath Jayasuriya. The runs-hungry Sri Lankan feasted on the Chennai bowlers. The magnificent 114 not out lashed 11 sixes. This awesome batting led Mumbai to a nine-wicket victory.
Jayasuriya was so ruthless in his batting that his unbeaten 114 came off just 48 deliveries. This splash of runs included the electrifying nine boundaries and hard long 11 sixes. The match proved a one-sided game as Mumbai chasing 157 for victory, reached 158 for one in the 14th over itself!
Sachin and Jayasuriya coming to the pitch to bat together is in itself a great cricket treat for all the fans. Moreover the Sri Lankan got down to the blazing job as soon as he touched the pitch. Then began the all round assault on Dhoni & Co. Dhoni and his bowling side had no clue what was happening on the pitch! Dhoni tried all the bowling options but sadly for him, no bowler could rein in the willow of Jayasuriya!
The Chennai fielders watched in awe and dismay as Jayasuriya kept on hitting the boundaries and sixes without any pressure or haste! Goni was canned hard by the Lankan for 20 in one over. Morkel also got his dose in 21 in a single over!
Contrary to the expectations Tendulkar could not perform well as Joginder Sharma got his wicket when he was struggling at 12 runs. But by then the damage had been done. Uthappa went not out at 16 and the target was achieved much in advance!
Earlier on Chennai’s batting side nothing astonishing happened! Many expectations were from Vidyut but he was out at a ball by Pollock at mere 16 runs. Fleming tried to strike hard but he also went back to the pavilion at 26 on a ball by Kulkarni. Raina’s catch was taken by Takawale off Bravo at 1. Badrinath batted well with some beautiful shots before he was gone at 53 on catch and ball by Bravo. He hit 7 fours and 2 sixes.
Dhoni himself went not out at 43 and fell short of another half century. He hit forceful 6 fours and one glorious six. Kapugedara was out at duck and Morkel was out at 5. So the target set was not big enough to beat Mumbai in the game. In this way Mumbai got victory by outclassing the Chennai team by 9 wickets.
