Punjab beats Delhi

Punjab won the crucial match against Delhi last evening. The disturbance caused by rain was upsetting but it could not deter the robust stroke play by Mahela Jayawardene and Luke Pomersbach. These two strikers ruined Delhi at their home ground - the Ferozeshah Kotla on Saturday. Punjab was declared the winner by six runs.

Jayawardene led the chase with a 17-ball 36. An aggressive Pomersbach shocked Delhi by swinging his bat around for a 12-ball 25. The duo helped the team cross the figure of 88 in eight overs needed to win the contest on Duckworth and Lewis method.

Rain and wind played spoilsport at the Ferozeshah Kotla. Electing to bat, Delhi got a mere 11 overs as rain halted play twice. The game resumed and Sehawg’s team managed 118 runs only, getting just three runs in the final over of James Hopes.

Sehwag was unbeaten at 51 off 26 balls with two fours and five sixes. Gambhir played well as he made 40 runs before being out at a ball by Powar. Dhawan could not do much as he was out at 8 off Powar. Dilshan also made 8 before he was out at a ball by Hopes. Maharoof went back at duck. Malik was 1 not out.

On Punjab’s side Marsh was out at a ball by Sangwan at just 2. Hopes was out at Mishra’s ball at 4. Yuvraj went back at McGrath’s ball at 23. Jayawardene was not out at 36. Pomersbach helped his team with his 25 not out. This way Punjab was led to an important victory by the joint effort of Jayawardene and Pomersbach.
